Our SportZone was officially opened in Feb 2009

Twenty-four hours of non-stop sport, which included participating sports stars and an attempt to break a Guiness world record, formed part of an exciting official opening of the new indoor sports facility at Kearsney College, Botha’s Hill in February 2009.

The exciting and fun celebration of youth, fitness and health will begin at noon on Wednesday 18th February 2009, ending at noon on Thursday 19th.  Professor Tim Noakes, an internationally respected authority on sports medicine, officially opened the facility.

Professor Noakes told the audience that Kearsney has set a new standard for other South African schools to follow.  He also spoke about sporting excellence, participation and fun which are also philosophies of Kearsney's approach to sport, high performance and wellness programmes which promote a healthy lifestyle.

The Headmaster Elwyn van den Aardweg said Kearsney does not believe in a ‘win-at-all-costs’ approach and actively discourages the use of stimulants and steroids, whilst educating boys on the long-term effect of taking taking substances..  “We believe in the importance of focussing on a healthy diet, a fit body and a positive mental approach.  To get the best out of boys, and for them to get the best out of life, a holistic approach needs to be taken.”  The 24-hour opening of the SportZone was designed to celebrate and promote this lifestyle, he said.

The world-class indoor SportZone is equipped with seven indoor cricket nets, two basketball courts, an indoor hockey field, two swimming pools and a high performance weights gymnasium.
