IEB Results 2015

We are incredibly proud to have THREE pupils make the IEB’s Outstanding Achievement and Commendable Achievement lists, which encompass South Africa’s top 134 candidates, or the top

1,2% of all IEB pupils. This is more than any other Independent boys’ school in KZN, making this the third time in the last four years that Kearsney has achieved this feat. The IEB’s Outstanding Achievement and Commendable Achievement lists can be viewed on our website via this link.

Kearsney’s excellence in Mathematics and Physical Sciences was reaffirmed, with an incredible 45% of those who wrote Mathematics and 32% of those who wrote Physical Sciences achieving a distinction. This compares to the IEB distinction rate of 22% for Maths and 17% for Physical Sciences for all IEB schools in the country. This is the fifth year in a row that Kearsney’s Mathematics and Science distinction rates have been approximately double the IEB distinction rates for these subjects.

We are pleased that this excellence is broad-based, with 72% of Mathematics candidates achieving an A or a B, and 64% of Science candidates achieving an A or a B. Three Kearsney boys are in the top 49 in the country for Physical Sciences. Given the importance of these subjects for university and career options, we are very pleased with these wonderful results and with the continued success of our Maths and Science Excellence Programme.

The 113 Kearsney boys who wrote Matric achieved an impressive 226 distinctions between them – an average of two distinctions each. Almost a quarter of our boys achieved four or more distinctions and over a third achieved three or more distinctions.

A 100% pass rate and an excellent 96,4% Bachelor Degree (University Exemption) pass rate was achieved by the Class of 2015.

We are delighted that the excellence that we have collectively strived for extends to all the subjects that we offer. Wonderful achievements were recorded across the board, including 48% of Engineering Graphics and Design candidates, 50% of Music candidates and 64% of Drama candidates achieving distinctions.

Academics are Kearsney’s number one priority and Kearsney boys are immersed in an academically rigorous environment from day one. The boys are inspired to achieve academically and they quickly adopt a wonderfully positive work ethic during their time at the College. This environment of academic striving, together with our highly qualified and incredibly professional and dedicated teachers, in a disciplined environment, empowers the boys to reach their potential and we acknowledge the important role that so many people play in making this possible.
