IEB Results 2016
Superb Matric Results for Kearsney’s Class of 2016
We are delighted to report the results of the 2016 IEB November Examinations, which were released to the school yesterday. The Class of 2016 have maintained their high standards and achieved an impressive set of results. Through their hard work, dedication and discipline throughout the year they have made themselves, their families and their school proud. Congratulations boys.
A 100% pass rate and a remarkable 98,1% Bachelor Degree (University Exemption) pass rate was achieved by the Class of 2016, with two of the Class receiving Diploma passes.
Kearsney’s excellence in Mathematics and Physical Sciences was reaffirmed, with an incredible 49,4% of those who wrote Mathematics and 47,5% of those who wrote Physical Sciences achieving a distinction. This compares to the IEB distinction rate of 26,9% for Maths and 19,3% for Physical Sciences for all IEB schools in the country. This is the sixth year in a row that Kearsney’s Mathematics distinction rate has been approximately double the IEB distinction rate for Mathematics and at least double the IEB distinction rate for Physical Sciences.
We are pleased that this excellence is broad-based, with 68% of Mathematics candidates achieving an A or a B, and 66% of Science candidates achieving an A or a B. Eight Kearsney boys are in the top 1% (top 50 candidates) in the country for Physical Sciences. Given the importance of these subjects for university and career options, we are very pleased with these wonderful results and with the continued success of our Maths and Science Excellence Programme.
In 2016 an English Excellence Programme was introduced at Kearsney and it is pleasing to see the systems introduced and the tremendous effort invested by the dedicated teachers bearing fruit, with 21% of the boys achieving distinctions (compared to the distinction rate for all IEB schools of 16,3%) and 93% of the boys achieving above 60%. Two Kearsney boys were in the top 1% of all IEB English candidates. This is a marked improvement on the 14% English distinction rate of 2015 and a positive endorsement of the measures put in place to achieve English excellence.
The 105 Kearsney boys who wrote Matric achieved an impressive 240 distinctions between them – an average of 2,3 distinctions per pupil. Seven pupils achieved 7 distinctions and 9 pupils achieved 6 distinctions. Over a quarter of our boys achieved four or more distinctions and over a third achieved three or more distinctions.
We are pleased that the academic excellence that we have collectively strived for extends to all the subjects that we offer. Notable achievements were recorded across the board, including 47% of Accounting candidates, 68% of Engineering Graphics and Design candidates, 44% of Music candidates and 64% of Drama candidates achieving distinctions.
We are also incredibly proud to have TWO pupils make the IEB’s Commendable Achievement list, having achieved in the top 5% of all IEB candidates in 5 subjects.
Academics are Kearsney’s number one priority and Kearsney boys are immersed in an academically rigorous environment from day one. The boys are inspired to achieve academically and they quickly adopt a wonderfully positive work ethic during their time at the College. This culture of academic striving, together with our highly qualified, professional and dedicated teachers, in a disciplined environment, empowers the boys to reach their potential and we acknowledge the important role that so many people play in making this possible.
