Kearsney College Culture 2015. - page 3

T
eachers of Art, Drama,
Dance and Music generally
work in isolation in their
schools with very few
others who share their vision,
challenges and joys.
Culture@Kearsney aims to
provide teachers and learners
with a platform and stage on
which to display their talents
and creativity. Bringing together
schools in the greater Durban
and Pietermaritzburg region, we
hope to provide
the opportunity for
young people to be
inspired about the
Arts and to inspire
others to appreciate
the talent found in all
our schools.
Culture@Kearsney
is a non-profit
attempt to encourage
young people in the Fine and
Performing Arts to take to the
stage and entertain. Established by
Kearsney College in 2013, the sub-
component disciplines of
Dance@Kearsney, Art@Kearsney,
Music@Kearsney and
Drama@Kearsney, under the
umbrella of Culture@Kearsney,
were held at the Botha’s Hill
campus of Kearsney College.
The diversity of talent, disciplines
and performers provides a truly
South African display of youth
involvement cutting across racial,
social and economic divides.The
second year saw a wonderful
growth in the festival
with significant increases
in entrants, number of
participating schools and
spectators.
Words@Kearsney will
be introduced in 2015,
showcasing language in
a creative and exciting
manner.
We invite schools to
participate in this youth festival.
The benefits to staff and learners
is immense, and the euphoria
of performing on a recognised
stage will be an experience to be
treasured.
