Donald Paterson

Kearsney College 1963-1967

It is with great sadness that I convey the news that Dr Donald Paterson (Gillingham 1963-1967) died  Friday 6th February 2015.

Donald leaves his wife Gillian, Richard, Alastair and Christopher all Kearsney Old Boys from ’1991 through to 2003.

He also leaves his sister Jean (Perth), his two brothers Andrew KCOB 1961- 1965 and Maurice KCOB 1967- 1971.

Donald a highly respected Gillingham prefect in 1967, a fleet footed and always an exceptionally fit loose forward for the 2nd rugby team. He excelled at swimming and water polo at Kearsney. He went on to represent his province Transvaal at water polo while at Wits medical school.

He served as a Specialist Anaesthetist in Kimberley for most of his career, then moved onto Kings Lynn in the UK. Thereafter he then moved back to RSA and worked at the George hospital until late 2014.

Donald will be remembered for his exceptionally high standards of integrity, level of physical fitness, and always had a word of wisdom to those around him.

A special family man who provided his sons the great Kearsney education that he was also able to enjoy.

It is of special interest that Richard is now an Orthopaedic surgeon, Alastair an Anaesthetist and Christopher a Chemical Engineer.

Our special condolences to Gillian and the whole Paterson family.

My wife Lesley and sons will always remember Donald with great admiration and love.

Donald will be sorely missed.
