Obituary in respect of Selwyn McLeod Evennett

Kearsney, Class of ’52.

Selwyn McLeod Evennett passed away in July 2015. He attended Kearsney College from 1948-1952 and was in Gillingham house. He and David Scott who had come to S. Africa from Canada became good friends through their mothers, who played tennis together.

Selwyn played tennis and cricket for Kearsney. He was a good batsman.

Shortly after leaving School Selwyn went to work on a farm in the Kokstad area, where he renewed contact with Andrew MacKenzie, a classmate. After a short time he moved to Zululand and joind Huletts as an Agricultural Estate Manager in the Kearsney/Darnall area. Later still, he moved to the Clifton Estate at Amatikulu.

On retirement he bought a small farm in the Byrne Valley, near Richmond, KZN.

Selwyn’s first wife, Sally, died tragically. He remarried; Mary. He had a daughter who lives in the Hillcrest area. 

Dogs were very important to Selwyn and his Pointers were his pride. He hunted with them in the Eastern Cape
