Nick knighted
Captain Nicholas Sloane
(Pembroke 1978)
received two awards in 2015: the Cavaliere
del Lavoro della Repubblica Italiana, an
Italian order of Knighthood, and The
Deutscher Meerespreis 2015, the German
Ocean Award, presented by the GEOMAR
Helmholtz Centre for Ocean Research Kiel
and the Deutsche Bank AG.
Early this year he joined Florida-based
salvors Resolve Marine Group as a director,
where his professionalism, innovation and
stellar work ethic will assist in growing the
business globally.
In the last edition we featured Captain
Sloane who led the recovery of cruise liner
Costa Concordia from its site of stranding
near the Italian island of Giglio. It was one
of the longest, most complicated and
most expensive undertakings of its kind
in history. Led by Nick, a team of more
than 500 salvage workers operated on site
for more than 30 months. The successful
completion of this operation prevented an
environmental catastrophe in the affected
part of the Mediterranean.
These latest two awards honoured his
extraordinary accomplishment.
