Phoka Mchunu selected as an Allan Gray Fellow

Phoka Mchunu, Kearsney’s Head of School in 2018, has earned a spot on the prestigious Allan Gray Orbis Foundation programme. During his time at Kearsney Phoka became aware of the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation and was determined to be a part of it. More than 7,000 talented young people applied for this incredible programme and Phoka was one of only 150 candidates to be selected.

Phoka believes that entrepreneurs are critical to providing solutions to South Africa’s complex problems and improving the prospects of all South Africans. Phoka’s goal after completing his bachelors and honours degrees is to launch a tech start-up. He says he appreciates that the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Fellowship will be invaluable to his entrepreneurship journey, providing the knowledge, network and mentorship to help him succeed. Phoka is currently studying a BCom in Information Systems with Finance at UCT
