South Africa needs quality education

We believe an investment in quality education is vital to the country’s economic and social development and long- term prospects for domestic stability and international competitiveness.

In our dynamic, competitive and globalised world, South Africa needs to equip Black South African students with the skills, knowledge, character and values that will empower them to assume the mantle of future leaders in business, academia, politics, the arts, social development and other fields. Kearsney takes this responsibility seriously, seeking to shape world- class leaders whilst celebrating our rich and diverse African heritage.

To continue to provide a world-class education, Kearsney aims to ensure that all our students:

  • broaden their understanding of the world, through a well-rounded, balanced education;
  • have access to varied and multiple opportunities to excel in academics, sport, cultural and other spheres;
  • develop a passion for learning and the ability to think critically;
  • emerge with self-belief, initiative and resilience.

To respond to this challenge the Kearsney Empowerment Programme was introduced to increase access and performance of Black South African students.

Our goal is for each boy to emerge from Kearsney with a thirst for knowledge and an enquiring mind. We seek to equip our boys with the knowledge, skills, character and self-confidence to achieve success in the modern world, and the values and wisdom to be valuable members of society and to make meaningful contribution to our country and the world at large.

Kearsney relies on the generous support of individuals, corporates, trusts and foundations to make all the advantages of a Kearsney education more accessible.

Funding partners assist us to meet the aims of the Kearsney Empowerment Programme which are to:

  • Increase the number of bursaries available for students from disadvantaged backgrounds;
  • Increase participation of previously disadvantaged individuals (pdi’s) in Kearsney’s advancement programmes which include academic, sports and cultural programmes, exchange and tour opportunities which cultivate a mindset of Global Citizenship (thinking global / acting local) with the boys in order to equip them with skills and knowledge to live in a global society with compassion and understanding;
  • Raise funds to support Kearsney’s Outreach programme and partners. Each Kearsney students is required to do a minimum of 15 hours community service per annum led by Kearsney teachers.
  • Offer Kearsney’s extensive academic support and advanced inclusion programmes to improve the overall quality of performance of pdi’s with more As, Bs and Cs in the final examination.
  • Offer advanced support provided through our Tertiary Access Programme.

Kearsney does not believe that a world-class education should be exclusive. The Kearsney Empowerment Programme provides a vehicle for corporates, trusts, foundations and individuals to assist Kearsney in making top quality education accessible to those less fortunate, thereby making meaningful and significant contribution to individuals’ lives and to South Africa’s future and it also allows the corporates, trusts and foundations to claim SED points on their B-BBEE scorecard.

The TEN Tertiary Access Programme enhances disadvantaged learners’ chances to obtain access to tertiary institutions and funding for their
tertiary studies. At the same time it prepares learners for a smooth transition into a tertiary environment and for success in
their first year of studies.

This Programme’s lead funder is Invicta Holdings and other partners invited to support this initiative. The Tertiary Access Programme (TAP) is run by Tsebo Education Network (Pty) Ltd (TEN). http://www.ten-edu.co.za/ABOUT_US/default.aspx  The workshops are supported by Mr Manzini Zungu. The boys are profiled in order for them to have a better understanding of what careers and tertiary studies they should do. The programme objectives are to assist the boy with funding for applications to Tertiary Institutions and for applying for Bursaries at these institutions.

To fund one boy’s two year participation on the programme costs R7 000 contact Kearsney Foundation on foundation@kearsney.com
