Kearsney College Foundation
Friends of the Choir

Few school choirs can stir the heart of the audience like the Kearsney College Choir which has become synonymous with vibrant, energetic performances and slick, professional productions. With their signature blend of classical, pop, and home-grown music, the choir has built up a large following of appreciative local and international supporters.

The Kearsney choir boasts a long list of accolades, including 15 Gold medals and 7 Silver medals at the World Choir Games (the Olympics for Choirs) between 2000 and 2018. The choir was awarded the “Prize of the City of Vienna” at the 33rd International Youth and Music Festival in Vienna, as well as 1st prizes in various international choral competitions in Hong Kong, Germany, Austria and Vienna.

Whilst International travel is vital to ensure the choristers are able to not only maintain but excel on the world stage, there are members of the Kearsney choir who simply cannot afford the tour costs and to this end, a fund was started to raise funds for tours and the future sustainability of the choir

The Friends of the Choir Fund is managed through the school as follows:

  • A Friends of the Choir governing committee is in place and made up of Kearsney management members, as well as music staff and previous choir members (Kearsney College Old Boys)
  • The goals of the committee are to structure and drive income generation, perform donor stewardship and manage the income and investment of the fund
  • The fund income is allocated as follows:
    • 50% of income is invested for long term sustainability (100% of interest earned is reinvested to the sustainability of the fund);
    • 50% of income is to assist funding of current tours through grants to applicants; and Donors of more than R100 000.00 may specify allocation.

All donations received directly by the fund are tax deductible as Kearsney is a registered Public Benefit Organisation (PBO) and the Kearsney Foundation is in place to issue tax certificates to qualify donors and manages affairs related to this fund.

Donors can make a once-off donation or a monthly donation via the “donate now” link.
