The Fundela iKusasa Academy, is an academic enrichment programme designed to provide educational advancement opportunities for children from underserved communities. The Academy aims to empower boys, whose innate ability and potential would otherwise not be realised due to their circumstances and lack of access, to gain a solid academic foundation and the opportunity of creating brighter futures.
The Academy will utilise the world-class facilities and teacher resources of Kearsney College to teach and support academically promising Primary School boys from schools in our surrounding communities. This academic enrichment programme aims to provide crucial support, foster curiosity, enabling the pupils to discover self-belief in these critical formative years.
Education and opportunity have the power to transform lives – not just for individuals, but for entire communities. When someone is given the chance to learn, grow, and pursue their potential, the impact ripples outward. Families are uplifted, communities strengthened, and future generations given a brighter path to follow. It’s this profound and lasting promise of change that fuels our passion and purpose.

The support of the community and the partner schools is critical to the success of this initiative. Four schools from our neighbouring semi-rural KwaNyuswa tribal area of The Valley of 1000 Hills have been carefully selected to be initial partners: Empilweni Primary School, Botha’s Hill Primary, Inkazimulo Primary School, Mnamatha Primary School
Selected Grade 4 – 7 boys (ages 10 – 13) will attend lessons on the Kearsney College Campus on three afternoons a week to participate in the academic enrichment programme.
The Academy will offer a holistic education and provide opportunities for individual growth. The academic programme will focus on reading for understanding and STEAM subjects – Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics.
The Academy will also offer sporting and cultural programmes for the pupils, most of whom have never had an opportunity to enjoy these basic pleasures and important benefits. Support will be provided in the areas of sport, music, pastoral care, therapy intervention (where necessary) and applications for high school bursaries or scholarships.

Creating Opportunity Through Education
Fostering a love of learning and a desire to succeed in primary school can have a transformative, life-long impact. By opening doors to quality educational experiences – whether through bursaries to top local schools or scholarships to prestigious institutions like Kearsney College – young individuals are given the tools to broaden their horizons, unlock new opportunities, and uplift their families and communities. These initiatives also set a precedent for collaboration between public and private education sectors, strengthening the overall educational ecosystem.
Key Outcomes:
Model for collaboration between public and private sector schools.
