The Headmaster’s Award is given annually to a senior who most closely embodies the Kearsney ideal of excellence of attitude and character, shown both in and outside the school. Criteria for selection includes a deep love of learning, passion for the College, a high level of participation in school activities, and a commitment to an ethical lifestyle that has been consistently displayed in relationships with both peers and staff.
We are delighted that this year’s recipient of this prestigious award is Josh van der Merwe, a highly respected and well-liked young gentleman. Joshua was fostered by Mari and Benny van der Merwe when he was just two months old and his adoption was formalised in 2016. He displayed remarkable potential as a young Grade 7 boy and was awarded a bursary to join Kearsney in 2017 courtesy of Halfway Toyota. It has been wonderful to witness his growth and development during his time at the College as he grabbed his opportunity and strove to be the best he can be.
Joshua has exemplified the motto of the school to “seize the day”. He is a young man of the highest integrity whose personal example and adherence to the high standards he sets himself has resulted in respect and acknowledgement from boys, staff and parents alike. Josh truly is one who is able “to walk with kings and keep the common touch”.
We as the Foundation Department would like to congratulate Joshua van der Merwe on receiving the 2021 Headmaster’s Award!
