Three Months into Our Journey – A message from Ghislaine Riceman

The Kearsney College Foundation formally launched the Centenary Arch Appeal at the beginning of March 2021 and as we approach the 3-month mark we cannot help but feel humbled by the outpouring of generosity we have experienced. We extend our deepest gratitude to all the loyal and passionate Old Boys, and current boys of the College too, who have generously supported this campaign.

At the time of penning this update the appeal currently stands at R 808 104 – 53.87% of the way to our goal of R1.5 million. These funds are to be invested into the Kearsney Development Fund. This fund provides Kearsney the financial resources to be able to confidently plan for its future.

With Founders celebrations taking place next week with 23 events of all kinds extending across the globe, and the first event already having taken place in Perth Australia, we are aiming at that big R1 million mark and encourage all Old Boys to dig deep and make their pledges to help us get there as we celebrate our 100 years!

This campaign is directed at Old Boys and current boys of the College, providing them with the opportunity of pledging their support to the Centenary Arch Appeal through a donation in a range of categories starting from as little as R 2500. Donors to this campaign are acknowledged as Founders of Kearsney’s Second Century and their names will be listed on the glass donor boards soon to be erected at the entrance to the Centenary Arch.

Other than the chance to support a great school and a very worthy cause, many of our donors have cited the opportunity to be a part of something very special together with their sons and other family members as one of the motivating reasons to donate to this appeal. To have their names up on our Founders of Kearsney’s Second Century donor boards alongside those of their sons or fathers, and in some cases three of four generations of names, is something truly special indeed.

To date 159 Old Boys of all ages and from around the world have embraced this opportunity to be Founders of Kearsney’s Second Century and have already pledged their support.

A breakdown of the donors reveals a lively tussle at the top between the various year groups and houses for most donors and total contributions to the appeal. Finningley has delivered the largest number of donors (62) who have contributed to the appeal whilst Pembroke takes the honours when it comes to total donations to date (R 318 303):

Our recent alumni from the Classes of 2017 and 2018 lead the pack with 11 donors each from their year group, closely followed by the Class of 2006 with 9.

Please contact our Foundation Office on foundation@kearsney.com or me directly should you have any queries or require any assistance in making your commitment.

We look forward to receiving your pledge. Carpe Diem!
