Kearsney College made history on the 14th April 2020 when all 655 schoolboys remained at home for the start of the second term when we commenced our online learning – a first in our 99-year history. Due to the COVID-19 lockdown in South Africa which was extended for a further 2 weeks until the end of April, the full school day of lessons is been conducted on an online platform called SharePoint and MS Teams. These platforms allow for asynchronous teaching, offline content lessons where the boys will work independently through the lesson, and synchronous lessons which are live lessons.
Mrs Vanessa Govender, Head of Academics, has managed this whole online project along with the teachers, admin, IT staff and boys. They have worked extremely hard for Kearsney to launch this new Kearsney online platform. This challenge was grasped with enthusiasm, excitement and a few nerves, but within 2 weeks the teachers have had intensive training and are prepared for this challenge.
One of the challenges has been to get the number of Foundation bursary boys’ access to hardware and internet connectivity, we are very grateful to number of sponsors who have stepped up to help provide this.
Standing together, we can make history!
